So, its that time of year again. Equal amounts of sun, and equal amounts of dark. Its like the Earth is hanging in balance, just for a couple of days before the long descent into the southern hemisphere winter.
Of course, the equinox also marks Easter for the christians. It’s dead baby jesus day. Did you know the date of Easter is determined by a full moon after the equinox. Go look it up, I’ll wait.
I was listening to the radio this morning as I awoke. Of course, I don’t give a gumboot full of shit that its easter, its not important to me, but I do like the idea that I can have the day off.
The radio, special broadcast for Good Friday and all, was talking about religious education in State schools. The guest was saying how its important that children be taught all sorts of religions so that they can make up their own minds. Keep ya stupid ideas to your self dear. The idea that jesus gave up his life for your sins is clearly silly. There was no sacrifice, he came back to life remember. So what was it he gave up? Oh, and just how long do we have to wait before we give up? Is 2000 years long enough before the little baby jesus lovers decide that he isn’t returning. Ever. The more you think about christians and dead baby jesus day, the more bizarre it seems. For over 2000 years you’ve been reenacting the whole easter passion thing – but yet there is no sign that he’s on the way back.
I’m gladly partaking in some fine easter traditions. Hot cross buns this morning, and of course chocolate eggs on Sunday morning. I’ve long forgotten how that all works in to christian faith, but I’m sure it was stolen from some other religion.
