Iranian president triggers racism conference walkout | theage.com.au
A conference on racism at the United Nations – who would’ve thought.
And what a crock of shit it was. Iranian President Ahmadinejad stood up to say some really spiteful nasty things about Israel and diplomats walked out. Some nations, such as the US and Australia knew what was likely to happen and didn’t even bother to show up.
The Durban conference in 2001 was just the same sort of debacle, the US and Israel withdrew when they didn’t like the proposed wording of the declaration.
Let’s get this sorted out now. The mostly Arab (Islamic) nations want to equate Israel’s treatment of the Palestinian people as racist. They fail to mention their attitude to the existence of Israel, their contempt for it and their underlying desire to obliterate it from the planet.
Walking away, or not attending the conference in the first place is not right. The Australians, Americans and Israelis should have been present. All those diplomats should not have walked out as a protest. There’s a bully in the room, he got up and said what he wanted, and in the context of the conference, there was no one to howl him down. The bully got his own way.
I am delighted to read the words of condemnation that flowed from the worlds leaders. Ahmadinejad overstepped the mark, and people ditched the diplomatic speak and told it like it was. Its a pity the same condemnation doesn’t happen on a more regular basis for a whole range of world issues. Perhaps if we did that we might lessen the extent of racism in the world and really move towards a more peaceful world and christians and Miss Universe contestants could stop bothering god about it.
