War is expensive

[SOURCE]

Mr Obama acknowledged in his 18-minute address that America’s seven-year commitment in Iraq had been at huge cost – in terms of human lives and resources. The war’s bill is currently $US1 trillion.

Sorry, how much was that?  a trillion… how much is that really. Sounds like a lot to me.

$1 trillion.

You’re joking aren’t you, how could you spend so much money.  Couldn’t you just stay at home a throw them half a trillion and be done with it?

That’s just staggering.

As expected, Mr Obama praised the valour of America’s military, men and women who had served “at every turn . . . with courage and sacrifice”. More than 4400 Americans had given their lives to help “the Iraqi people seek the light of peace”.

“Like all Americans, I am awed by their sacrifice, and by the sacrifices of their families.”

Of the mission, Mr Obama insisted: “We have sent our young men and women to make enormous sacrifices in Iraq, and spent vast resources abroad at a time of tight budgets at home.

Not a trillion dead, at least not on the US side, but again what a staggering number.  Not to mention the tens of thousands injured and not to mention the deaths on the other side.

And what’s to be in awe of?  I know that people have died.  But they just did their job.  You sent them to war (well, not you, but the previous you – Bush) and they got killed.  The didn’t want to get killed, but they did.

This is just ridiculous, why do we have to fight like this?

War is stupid.

A trillion dollars indeed.

Absolutely. A war about oil and influence and arrogance. Approx 100,000 Iraqis dead (is that American-speak for “seeking the light of peace?”). Btw nice to have you back on the job llama…
