My friend Ray at the Australian Christian party is a bit sad that no one is taking him seriously!

In 2012, all media, including the ABC were invited to the launch of the newly registed political party Australian Christians; a party seeking to represent the 19% of Australians who attend church once a month or more. No journalists attended.

Oh goodness me, what long memories you have.  Still hurts does it?  The media paid you no attention at all?  How will you cope!  Fancy being ignored by the media!  How dare the media decide what’s news worthy and what’s not.

Tonight the ABC news featured a lengthy article on the newly anounced pro gay marriage party seeking to elect candidates to the Senate in 2016. This party represent about 1.5% of australians who identify homosexual and is not registered with the AEC.

Oh my goodness me, how dare the ABC take their cameras out to Melbourne Pride March and not only film the march but do an interview with a new party.  Did you have a similar event to launch your party?  How much work did you put into the launch?  Was there a thousand beautiful bodies to draw the media in?  Oh, and you do know that Channel 9 and 7 also covered the event?  Why have you singled out the ABC for not reporting your launch?  It must really be a pain to be ignored.

In the past few years, the number of federally registered political parties grew to over 50. How many newly registered political parties did the ABC publicise in the same way they did with this new pro gay marriage party on this evenings news? How did it qualify for so much tax payer funded attention and free publicity?
I have asked the question of the ABC but do not expect a reasonable reply.

Oh please.  Why do we have the ABC do anything at all?  At one time Cardinal George Pell was on Q&A for a whole hour.  Once upon a time we had to watch the burial of a dead pope, hours were devoted to watching a puff of smoke come out of the chimney.  Why shouldn’t it cover all areas of the world and not just one that supports you.  Why don’t you just put your dummy back in your mouth and play with your hair?

A Double Life http://www.brucellama.com/2010/05/22/a-double-life/ Sat, 22 May 2010 01:33:19 +0000 http://www.brucellama.com/?p=1434 [SOURCE]

I’ve never lead a double life.  I’ve lived a lie, I’ve been in denial and I once had a romp with a very attractive she-llama.

David Campbell, until quite recently has been leading a double life.  He was the Minister for Transport for the New South Wales government.  He has been visiting ‘sex clubs’ – gay sex clubs, then going home to his lovely wife and children.

I’m not sure if he’s gay or bi, perhaps he just found men better to have sex with and he’s actually straight.  Who cares.

The whole story broke because Channel 7 followed him around, secretly filming him and then exposed it to the whole nation.  It’s not like he was doing any thing illegal, their initial premise was that he was using a tax-payer funded car to get the gay club… which is ok apparently.  That was the initial reason for them breaking the ‘scandal’.  When that fell flat they moved to ‘he’s been leading a double life and he shouldn’t be’ and as a former police minister he may be compromised by visiting a brothel and sex club.

Here’s a question for us.  Why did he lead a double life?  Why did he send out family christmas cards?  Why did he pretend to be a family man?

The answer?  Because fuckwits like Peter Meakin1 continue to treat sexuality as ‘scandal’, instead of allowing their stories to be useful and help change public perception that might allow people to come out, they go for the ratings and the sensationalism pretending it’s in the public interest.  They have had no respect for Campbell, have shattered his life for their own self interest and are probably patting themselves on their own backs.  Campbell may well have got to a point of dealing with his double life down the track, perhaps he was waiting for the kids to grow up, for his mum to die, saving his money to move elsewhere.  We don’t know.  But we do know that someone else took it upon themselves to expose him and treat him like a piece of trash.

This also sends a message to those who are struggling with their sexuality.  It may well encourage more people to stay hidden, live even more secret lives, they may feel depressed, anxious and suicidal.

This isn’t news, this isn’t helpful, this isn’t public interest, this is about a media outlet destroying the life of people for no reason other than the glory of being Number 1 in the ratings.  What an arsehole of a thing to do.

Faking followers on Twitter http://www.brucellama.com/2009/07/08/faking-followers-on-twitter/ http://www.brucellama.com/2009/07/08/faking-followers-on-twitter/#comments Tue, 07 Jul 2009 15:14:39 +0000 http://www.brucellama.com/?p=629 Kyle and Jackie O accused of faking followers on Twitter.

It would seem that two of Australia’s radio ‘stars’ have been accused of faking accounts on Twitter to boost their numbers.  It would seem that Kyle has threatened to sue.

So fucking what.

The world has a food crisis, our economy is in melt down, the air is thick with smog, the water has stopped falling here but falls by the bucket full in other unexpected places, and what are you doing?

Get a grip – I mean really.  Tossers.

Gruen Transfer http://www.brucellama.com/2009/05/14/gruen-transfer/ Wed, 13 May 2009 13:46:40 +0000 http://www.brucellama.com/?p=548 Now I’ve seen some pretty offensive things.  I’ve said some pretty offensive things and I’ve been the brunt of some pretty offensive things.  This Llama at times is an offensive thing.

The Gruen Transfer tonight pulled a segment from their show as it was a bit much to take.  I won’t link to it, you can find it yourself.  It takes a lot to offend me, not that I’m saying I was offended, but today it came close.

That’s not the aim of my rant today.  I’m a twitterer – you can follow me on twitter – brucellama.  Tonight I was following the discussion tagged #gruentransfer and was amazed to see overingtonc make a crass and bad taste joke at the expense of Jews.

Overingtonc has a link on her twitter account to a blog on the Australian. That Australian blog is Caroline Overington.

Shame on you Caroline Overington.  6 million Jews were murdered during the holocaust.  It’s not funny and your tweet was not funny, it was in bad taste.

Those swine http://www.brucellama.com/2009/05/05/those-swine/ Tue, 05 May 2009 08:00:31 +0000 http://www.brucellama.com/?p=539 I can hardly let it pass without making comment about the stupidity of it all.  So, the swine flu sweeps out of Mexico, they claim to have 170 people die from it.  Mexico goes into shutdown.  (Later the number is reduced to 12 or so)

The World Health Organisation, the word pandemic, if you’ve been watching the media at all lately you know what’s been going on.

The problem with all of this is the media.  Hype. I hate the way they do problem saturation.

How can we take anything reported in the media seriously?  How much is the World Health Organisation to blame for this?

For the last few years we have been subjected to doom and gloom with bird flu, SARS, swine flu and no doubt a whole lot more to come.

What happens when something does happen, something that really requires us to sit up and pay attention.  Who will we trust for our news and views?

I’m sure the world yearns for news as it should be, the telling of the facts without the hype. It’s time to hold the media accountable for their deplorable reporting techniques.

I can’t let it slip by without comment that the Egyptian government has gone all out and asked for the slaughter all pigs in Egypt.  Despite the fact that the pigs pose no threat.  Just what the world needs silly governments and silly media outlets.

World Youth Day WYD08 http://www.brucellama.com/2008/06/08/world-youth-day-wyd08/ http://www.brucellama.com/2008/06/08/world-youth-day-wyd08/#comments Sun, 08 Jun 2008 10:26:05 +0000 http://www.brucellama.com/?p=93 This July about 225,000 youth are expected to descend upon Sydney for World Youth Day, which is being organised by the catholic church as a week long pilgrimage for the young people of the world to share in the love of christ (poor bastards)  It has a youth festival which includes such wonderful things as the vocation expos – that’s where you go along to learn about becoming a nun or a priest and not ever having sex in your whole life.  Sounds like fun.  You can also join in the Journey of the Cross & Icon, which sounds like the best time of all.  The Holy See has even granted a Plenary Indulgence – that’s the forgiveness of your sins

This purification takes place through patient bearing of trials and sufferings through charitable and merciful acts, and through prayer.

Who would’ve thought.

But I wanted to save my scorn really for their corporate sponsors.  Even the catholics know that to survive in this world you need the help of big business, because they’ll come flocking to your door to help you out when you’re trying to reach out to 225, 000 young people – just the right demographic.

There’s a code of ethics if you want to offer sponsorship. (SOURCE) among the things that it says

Partnership

WYD08 regards selected Corporate Affiliates and Suppliers as partners in the work of hosting WYD08, together with the Pope, and the youth of the world. Therefore, no individual or organisation is acceptable who conducts or is associated with the conduct of business, or who continues to endorse past business, that:

  • is clearly inconsistent with the moral teaching of the Catholic Church
  • seeks to promote, or to benefit from, addictive or other harmful responses in young people
  • is likely to be judged socially irresponsible by Church teaching or current business ethics practice

Get that?  If you’re clearly inconsistent with the moral teaching, if you promote or benefit from harmful things to young people, and then there’s the whole business ethics thing.

So, some of the main players this year are Telstra, Commonwealth Bank, Qantas, The Daily Telegraph, and plenty of others.

The Daily Telegraph, owned by News Limited owns the match.com website which you can join for free and find a man or woman, as you like and I assume form a relationship and have sex with them, or if you’re gay you can find a man (or a woman if you’re a woman). Is that in keeping with the moral teaching of the church?  You can get to match.com by going to The Daily Telegraph website and clicking on classifieds and dating.

Telstra, our national telecommunications company. The ACCC has on numerous occasions found them guilty of misleading conduct.  That’s not very christian now is it? (SOURCE) Not to mention the questionable telephone services that they supply through their networks. (SOURCE)

Qantas, our beloved national carrier – first of all, well done for sacking the attendant who admitted to having sex in the loo on your one of your planes (SOURCE), that showed some real moral fibre didn’t it.  I mean after all, we can’t have unmarried people having sex in a space that can’t be accessed by the anyone once the door is locked.  Perhaps Qantas could explain how it managed to get a $70 million dollar fine in the US for a six year price fixing scam. (SOURCE)  It took six years to get caught, and they admitted their guilt.  How ethical is that do you think?  When quizzed about the fine, the CEO said he didn’t think it would do much harm to their bottom line.  Whew, I’d hate to think it actually hurt.

The Commonwealth Bank recorded a profit for the 6 months to December 2007 as $2,371 million dollars (that’s just half a year) money earned from its customers.  You see, we all started using Netbank, it was free to start with, but now costs us for just about every transaction (SOURCE).  Or how about the Loan servicing fee, mine is $7.00 a month, although its not clear what service I get for my money and they still manage to charge me interest.  That’s not too bad on the scale of sins, apart from their lack of compassion and social responsibility for looking after those less able to pay.

It’s worth having a look over the World Youth Day disclosure statement, as you read it make a few mental notes and tick off where you think their major sponsors are unworthy of the catholics.

Disclosure

Applicants for a business relationship with WYD 2008 should use their best endeavours to disclose any business or professional activities or involvements which they suspect may be judged unethical or contrary to Catholic teaching by WYD08, or which may promote or benefit from addictive or other harmful responses in young people.

As guidance, causing, promoting or willingly benefiting from any of the following would be judged unethical and contrary to Catholic Church teaching:

  • promiscuity, contraception, abortion, adultery;
  • violence, abuse, intentional self-harm, addiction to harmful substances or activities, marital or family breakdown;
  • unjust discrimination, payment of unjust wages, unethical work conditions, illegal business dealings;
  • attacks on Catholic faith, attacks on Church leaders, religious discrimination, religious bigotry

The following would be judged addictive or harmful responses in young people:

  • substance abuse
  • under-age drinking
  • under-age sex
  • pornography, including inappropriate Internet usage
  • problem gambling
  • serious credit card or other debt
  • self-harm or tendencies towards self-harm
  • depression and other psychological disorders
  • serious truancy or inattentiveness in school
  • significant anti-social tendencies

My challenge here, for a church rocked by its own mistreatment of its youth in its care, is for them to fess up and cut loose those organisations that don’t stand the scrunity of its own code of ethics.  Or is the money more important?

What other links can you find that highlight reasons for these organisation to be thrown down in front of the swines?

The Media http://www.brucellama.com/2008/06/03/the-media/ Tue, 03 Jun 2008 10:10:32 +0000 http://www.brucellama.com/?p=90 I’m having a go at the media.  It has the power to do great things in our world, but time and time again we get fed cheap crap.  I’m talking about Patty Newton, not that she’s cheap crap, apparently she had $130,000 worth of stuff in her handbag and it got stolen (source) while she was having a coffee at a Chadstone shopping centre.  That’s horrible, of course, she lost some items of great sentimental value.  I’m glad to see that they’ve been returned.

My problem here is the media.  For fuck sake, lots of people are robbed, beaten, killed and maimed every day.  I’m sure there are a lot more people deserving of some help from the media than Patty Newton.  The focus on her and her trauma is completely unwarranted and should have been buried on page 10 in the local newspaper, not the lead bloody story on the TV news.  Its a classical example of celebrity worship.

There, I said it.
